Project Objectives
TOMA were engaged by Cancer Research to establish a PRINCE2 compliant programme assurance function within the charity’s Internet & New Media department. The remit included improving project reporting and establishing a mechanism to deliver more effective resource and cost/benefit tracking and forecasting
Strategy, Tactics and Skills
- Conducted interviews with project managers to explore concerns and areas of perceived weakness
- Reviewed current reporting and forecasting mechanisms to identify shortcomings
- Designed and produced a simple, easy to use project reporting tool covering:
- Simplified project status reporting
- Standardised RAID capture, documentation and analysis
- Automated Forecast vs Actuals financial reporting
- Enhanced Cost/Benefit and NPV modelling
- Resource actual and forecast resource utilisation
- Developed and delivered training workshops to kick off implementation of new reporting
- Provided 1-2-1 coaching to embed financial reporting and benefits measurement
- Created automated programme-level reporting
Results and Evaluation
Project reporting tool was successfully introduced and is now utilised in end stage reporting to Project and Programme Boards.
The detailed project level reporting was used as the basis for resource and budget forecasting for the department’s 1 year and 3 year operational planning
